Born inLeigh-on-sea, Essex in 1965 to English and Malaysian parents, Jamel moved to North Borneo at the age of five. At thirteen he returned to England to pursue his education and in 1989 he successfully gained a BA Honours Degree in Illustration. His work is striking in its sense of movement; there is energy and vigour as he captures a bird mid flight or a dancer pirouetting.
