Anthony Theakston

Anthony Theakston is a ceramic artist whose practice is rooted in both traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design. He studied ceramics for six years, graduating with an Honours Degree from Bristol before completing a Master of Arts in Ceramic Design at Cardiff in 1990.

Following his studies, he lectured for five years at Camberwell College of Arts and Falmouth School of Art while establishing himself as a studio ceramicist. In 1991, he was selected as a member of the Crafts Council, leading to opportunities to exhibit internationally at major events including gift fairs in New York and San Francisco. Early representation included Adrian Sassoon and Contemporary Applied Arts, alongside numerous galleries across the UK and USA.

He has exhibited widely at leading craft, design and ceramics fairs throughout the UK, and his work has also been presented at European art fairs through gallery representation in the Netherlands.

In recent years, he has expanded his practice to include bronze, working with a foundry to cast his sculptural forms. This development has enabled him to explore a greater sense of scale while maintaining the refined qualities of his ceramic work.

His work is held in important public and private collections worldwide, including The British Council Crafts Collection, the Ashmolean Museum, the Fitzwilliam Museum Contemporary Design Collection, the Aberystwyth Ceramic Collection, the Agatha Christie Collection at the National Trust, Greenway, and the Bristol Museum.
