Artist Bio
Robert Indiana (1928-2018), one of the preeminent figures in American art since the 1960s, played a central role in the development of assemblage art, hard-edge painting and Pop art. Born Robert Clark in Indiana, he was adopted as an infant and spent his childhood moving frequently throughout his namesake state, later adopting it as his surname. Most famous for his iconic “LOVE” image, which has appeared across media including sculptures, prints, and paintings and epitomizes theartist’s graphic, predominantly text-based Pop art practice.
