Pedro Rodríguez Garrido
Born in Huelva,in the south of Spain in 1971,Pedro Rodríguez Garrido studied at the School of Fine Arts in Seville where specialized in painting.
It was after graduating that Pedro was often drawn to exploring cities. The technological wonders and diversity within these vibrant places fascinated him. He has drawn inspiration from “urban” Americans such as Edward Hopper and Richard Estes, and was particularly drawn to the charms of New York, which serves as the backdrop for much of his work. Pedro's interest in the city's infrastructure can be seen in all of his works, from the busy “road scenes” to the “panoramic views” taken from tall buildings.
The way he builds up the oils, layer upon layer of often quite dry paint "dragged" across the surface creates a textured finish. A few well-chosen brands translate to a passing car, or splashes of color hint at a traffic light. works there is a sense of continuous movement with Pedro's trademark and vibrant brush strokes. His palette of cool and soft tones conveys a "Turneresque" atmosphere to this theme.
Pedro currently lives in Spain and continues to paint representations of these cities that breathe and live.
The main theme of his work is the urban landscape. The treatment of light and textures are of special importance. These are open compositions, whether they are streets of cities like New York, Madrid, Chicago, London or panoramic views. He uses a plastic language where both the support and the materials are diverse. The stain, the expressive part, the graphics are a fundamental part of his work that combines figuration and abstraction.
The work of Pedro Rodríguez Garrido is present in various public and private collections in Spain, the USA, Sweden, China, South Korea and the United Kingdom.
